Why Love Island?

Love Island is considered an extremely popular reality TV show, attracting a huge amount of attention annually, especially amongst people of university age. Running for its third season on ITV 2 this year, 2.43 million viewers tuned in to the final episode – record breaking for the channel. Having all seen our friends (of both genders) regularly watching Love Island this summer, engrossed in the action and always excited to find out what happened next, we thought it would be the perfect theme for Variations – we’re hoping to attract the regular MTS theatre goer, as well as students around campus who perhaps have never seen an MTS show before but are interested to see what we do with the topic. Love Island the Musical has the potential to be comical and push boundaries. It allows us to develop a story ourselves, which we’re very excited about given that anything can potentially happen in the Villa! We think members of MTS will find it an exciting project to be a part of in that sense.

We think that even those who are less interested in Love Island would still be very interested to see what kind of production we put on using the given theme. Audience members will be treated to a wide range of MT repertoire, both well known and perhaps more niche.

We’re very aware that Love Island is also a popular TV programme with many adults, and with strong use of Social Media advertising, we hope to attract and cater for a wide range of audience members.
