The votes have been counted and verified, and it is our pleasure to announce the MTS committee for 2016/17!
Succeeding incoming SU Co-President Societies and Media Pippa Gentry as MTS President will be Stephen Johnson, a third year Drama and Music student and MTS veteran. Stephen made his MTS debut in his very first term at Royal Holloway when he confidently portrayed Nick Piazza in Fame, our 2014 Autumn Term Main Show, and ever since he has gone on to MD Variations 2015, play Jack in Into the Woods, Angel in RENT and took solos in our past two Summer Cabaret productions. Stephen will do a fantastic job and we look forward to seeing his ideas for MTS come to fruition.
Max Harris, a third year Music student, will take over from Bethany Hearn as Vice President. Like Stephen, Max made his MTS debut during his first term when he played clarinet and saxophone in the band for Fame, and he has gone on to musically direct our past three main shows (RENT, Into the Woods, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) and past two Summer Cabaret productions as well as various inclusion events such as Christmas Concert and Weekend Show. Max is also a teacher at various stage schools in the South East, and we look forward to seeing his plans for all the inclusion events which he will spearhead for the next academic year, as part of his job on committee.
Joining Stephen and Max on committee next year will be new Secretary Emma Twomlow. Emma wowed us all during our most recent Summer Cabaret when she performed a solo, 'Your Daddy's Son' from Ragtime, when there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Emma is a second year Spanish and Music student, and again she made her MTS debut during her first term when she portrayed Cinderella's Stepmother in Into the Woods. Welcome Emma!
Third year Drama student Anneliese Guy will fulfil the role of treasurer. Although she has never been in a Main Show, Anneliese has plenty of MTS experience thanks to her participation in many of our inclusion events such as ANATT, Christmas Concert and the past two Summer Cabaret productions. She also expertly produced our 2015 Variations production, as such, we can't wait to see her put her skills into action as treasurer.
Mollie Stockhill, a third year English and Drama student will assume the role of Events Co-ordinator for the next academic year. Mollie has played Scaramouche in our 2015 Variations production as well as Woman With Bags in our award-winning production of RENT, and her fantastic personality and willingness to succeed will ensure she brings a touch of sparkle to her role. We can't wait to see what events she has planned for next year!
The role of Productions and Volunteering Co-ordinator will become obsolete for the next academic year, and in its place comes two brand new roles. The newly created role of Charities and Volunteering Co-ordinator will be fulfilled by second year Drama student Abi Slade, who played the part of Rapunzel in our production of Into the Woods, whilst the other new role of Careers and Development Officer will be assumed by fourth year Amy Stone, fresh from her year abroad in Montpellier. We're very excited to see what these two get up to next year in order to benefit our society and its members!
Finally, second year student and Photoshop legend Emma Nylund completes the committee with her role as Publicity Officer. Emma is already hard at work making all of our wonderful posters and publicity for freshers week, so keep an eye on this website in the next few weeks to see what we have planned for freshers' week and the month following.
So that leaves only one role un-elected - First Year Representative! Are you an incoming first year student with a passion for Musical Theatre, and do you think you could bring something to our wonderful team! Do you think you would be a suitable person to attract new first year members to MTS, and do you think you have ideas that just need to be heard? If so, the first year rep role is for you! Watch this space for an announcement about elections, which will take place in early October - all you have to do is prepare a one minute speech on why you think you are suitable for the role. May the best candidate win!
We hope you are all enjoying wonderful summer holidays and cannot wait to either meet you all, or see you all again in September. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the committee on mts@su.rhul.ac.uk!
