More than just a show face and jazz hands

Although last night's post was raving about the backstage community on campus, there is much more to being a part of a society than having a blast!

We are constantly being told that a degree isn't enough to get where we want to be in the big wide world after we leave uni. Employers want tonnes of experience but nobody will give you the chance to gain any. This is where we come in...

However you decide to get involved with MTS, whether it's through our Main Term Shows, through inter-society events like ANATT, through fundraisers, through our volunteering opportunities or through just coming a long and seeing what it's all about, you can get something from it to go on your CV and future job applications.

Working backstage teaches you how to think on your feet, solve problems quickly as part of a team and communicate with others clearly.

Performing can give you the confidence to speak in front of big groups of people, the time management skills that every employer wants and the ability to work under pressure in a team.

Through fundraising or volunteering you can learn new skills, meet new people and do something good for others.

The list goes on and on...

Over the next year we will be running events, workshops and trips to make sure that our members can get the most out of their time with us (as well as amazing memories). We will be hosting a Q&A session with graduates from RHUL and other people in the industry so you can see how the skills you learn on campus can help you in the future. We will also be organising workshops with industry professionals and trips to see shows as well as workshops with the on campus careers service to help make the big post-graduation world a little less scary.

We know that thinking about graduation might seem a bit early for those of you who aren't even with us yet, but trust us it goes far too quickly (and these events will be loads of fun too!).

If you have any requests for careers-related events, don't hesitate to let us know by dropping us an email or sending us a message on Facebook.
