The first term of a new academic year can be a daunting time, especially if you're new to Royal Holloway, but fear not - we have a term bursting full of events lined up to blow away those summer blues!
On September 19th and 20th, you will have your first opportunity to meet us and find out what we're all about at the Freshers' Fair, which will take place in the Sports Centre. At our stall will not only be committee members (all of whom are totally clued-up on everything MTS), but also production team members of our forthcoming show, Bring It On. Make sure to pop down to find out all the vital info!
Following this, on September 21st, we will have our taster session in Stumble Out, a bar joined onto Medicine (next to Williamson, Tuke & Butler) which also doubles up as a fantastic rehearsal space. Here, you will also have the opportunity to meet us, and partake in short taster rehearsals to see just how things work. Max Harris, Vice President and Musical Director, will be joined by the choreographer for our performance of Candy Store in ANATT to deliver these short sessions, which will be juxtaposed by fun games and the whole hour will be very informal and enjoyable. We hope to see you there!
There will also be a MTS BBQ held during Welcome Week - watch this space for a confirmed date!
On September 26th and 27th, we have auditions for our exciting Autumn Term production, Bring It On! Please only attend one date, and successful auditionees will be invited to callbacks which will take place on September 28th. Production team members will be present at the Freshers Fair, the Taster Session and the BBQ so there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions!
This same week, rehearsals for ANATT will begin. We will perform two numbers in this fantastic inter-society showcase, Candy Store from Heathers and Can You Feel The Love Tonight from The Lion King, and we encourage all of our members to get involved! Nothing looks better than a stage full of MTS members, so please do come along to rehearsals which will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays. ANATT itself will take place at the end of October!
In mid-November, following six weeks of intensive rehearsals, Bring It On will take place in the SU. This promises to be an incredible show, and we encourage everyone to come along to support. With a cast of over 20, a full live band and huge choreographed dance routines, we cannot wait to show the campus what we're made of.
And finally, in December, we have our final event of the term and our second inclusion event of the year, our lovely Christmas Concert, which takes Christmas songs from musicals and popular culture plus a number of our favourite carols. This is the first of our Cabaret shows of the year, taking place in Stumble Out, and it brings a great deal of Christmas joy to the Royal Holloway campus. We love all of our members to get involved!
In addition to all these exciting performance events, MTS will also be partaking in regular Sing-Along Surrey events. Sing-Along Surrey is a programme run by Royal Holloway, allowing its various music-based clubs and societies to visit local care homes throughout the county. We pride ourselves on bringing such joy to the residents of these homes through our music and encourage as many of our members as possible to give up some of their time to come along and share our MTS spirit.
We will also be having regular socials, including a theatre trip to a West End show, as well as a careers-based event with industry professionals. Does all of this sound exciting? It certainly does to us, which is why we are one of the busiest societies on campus!
Any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us on mts@su.rhul.ac.uk. Less than a month to go until term starts, we can't contain our excitement!!
